Secure Yourself on Twitter
If you’re a beginner to Twitter and are bit concerned of your privacy on this social media platform, simply follow these easy steps below to protect what you post. This will allow you to choose who has access to your account as well as who can share your content.
- First things first, go to settings under your profile. This can be done by clicking on your profile picture.
2. From settings, many options will appear depending if your on a mobile device or a PC, such as account, notifications, timeline, etc. Select privacy and safety. You will then be directed to a page similar to this:
3. As you can see from the above picture from the Twitter privacy settings, you can choose to protect your tweets. This picture is from my Twitter account (@EID100_RyeDude don’t be afraid to follow). I currently have my tweets unprotected because I have nothing to hide. But, if you only want your followers to see your content then I suggest you protect your tweets. Doing this will stop followers from retweeting your posts and people who do not follow you will not be able to see or share your content. Someone who wants to see your content will have to request to follow your account.
4. If you only want to receive direct messages from friends on your Twitter account, then keep “ Receive messages from anyone” off as seen in the picture above.
5. Twitter also gives you the option to allow friends or anyone on Twitter to tag you in photos. Simply select “Who can tag me in photos” to do this.
6. Want to keep your email address and phone number private on your Twitter account? Just don’t allow others on Twitter to find your account with this information by not selecting “Let others find me by my email address and phone number”.
Overall, it doesn’t matter which social media platform it is, you should allows check the privacy settings on your account to keep your information and content protected. Also, be friendly on these social media platforms, unless it’s a mean tweet to a celebrity…
