Master of Low Balls: Strike Zone
Expanding our mental orientation beyond WHERE TO to WHERE FROM
I have been thinking about
what ET could work on,
what ET could focus on
whenever she gets a chance.
What would be
a good objective
for ET to focus on
at this point
in her game,
especially as
she trains on her own.
ET does not yet have
a long term vision,
a long term visual
of how she wants
to strike the ball,
so it is difficult
for her to
improve her technique
by her self.
So ET needs something
that is easy to understand,
pays off right away,
but is challenging to master,
a skill that will pay dividen
over & over again
throughout her career.
I have thought of it:
STRIKE LOW.
Target vs. Strike Zone
In the following article,
I talked about
mastering low balls:
The article focused on
hitting the balls so that
our opponents are forced
to strike the ball low
by making the balls
bounce near their feet.
That is,
the article talked about
mastering Low Target Zone.
Guess what?
Our opponents,
the good ones,
are thinking the same thing
& are going to do same thing:
Give us balls
that we need to hit
down low.
So, to be
a Master of Low Balls,
we have to master
BOTH:
- Hitting our balls
to where
the opponent has to
strike the ball low. - Hit the ball low
ourselves.
That is,
strike the ball
from where
we are striking
the ball low.
Tactical Focus
While training on her own,
this is a tactical focus
that I have
while playing games:
- Striking the ball
as low as possible
to the ground. - Striking the ball
so that the ball
bounces near
the opponents feet,
making them
hit the ball
low to the ground.
Being able hit the ball low
from where as well as to where
will give ET options
that would not be available
without that skill.
