Introducing Kenny Scharf’s NFT art collection, Emoshow by Kenny Scharf x ETNAH
On the 30th of August, ETNAH launched an opening party for Kenny Scharf’s exhibition in Seoul while announcing the next big NFT art project — Emosho by Kenny Scharf x ETNAH.
The party was held together with Gallery Hyundai on the opening day of Kenny Scharf exhibition, New! Now! Good!. While the party was going on the first floor of Gallery Hyundai Gangnam, the exhibition was open to the public at the annex and the second floor. NFT lovers, art collectors, and Kenny Scharf fans gathered from all around the city to join the hype. Kenny Scharf, the artist and the star of the day, also visited the site to celebrate the event.
Although it was a rainy night, so many people came to enjoy the exhibition and party the night away! Participants of the event savored on the special drink and treat inspired by Kenny Scharf’s artworks, while some of them gathered to the side to get a print of limited T-shirts customed right on the spot. On the large media facade on the party floor, the teaser video for the upcoming Kenny Scharf NFT collection, Emoshow, was screened for the first time. There was also an event people could participate through their social media hashtags where winners could earn Kenny Scharf goods and tickets for Kiaf PLUS 2022.
Who is Kenny Scharf?
“One very important and guiding principle to my work is to reach out beyond the elitist boundaries of fine art and connect to popular culture through my art. My personal ambition has always been to live the example.”
— Kenny Scharf Biography
Kenny Scharf (b. 1958) is a renowned artist affiliated with the 1980’s East Village Art movement of downtown New York alongside Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He developed a distinct and uniquely personal artistic style, which he describes as “Pop Surrealism,” where his fantastical images incorporate various references to pop culture.
Growing up as one of the “television kids” of the mid-1960s in Hollywood, California, Kenny Scharf encountered the burst of popular culture, the narratives of space travel, as well as the military and political tensions of the Cold War, which inspired his art. As an artist, he has broadened his scope of art through his experiences with punk rock, hot rod culture, van art, and his explorations of pop art, abstract expressionism, surrealism, and the work of older masters.
Kenny Scharf has never ceased to bring experiments to his creative process — the recent collaboration with Dior is the perfect example of the expansion of the artist’s artistic scope. His collaborations with brands include the renowned lineup such as Pull&Bear, Jeremy Scott, Fendi, and Louis Vuitton.
What is “Emoshow”?
“(My art is) Communication, feelings, history… Art that I love is art that emotionally gets to me, and I want to convey the same thing to people. I want people to feel.”
— Kenny Scharf on interview with Maryam Eisler, Lux Magazine
As it was announced at the event, Kenny Scharf launches his new interactive NFT collection, Emoshow, with the NFT art platform ETNAH this November. Emoshow aims to evoke the process of feeling and sharing emotions through Kenny Sharf’s artwork.
The collection takes Kenny Scharf’s “Tondos” to a new step as digital art. The artworks will be applied with animations and sound effects, and also an interactive element where it enables the collectors to generate variation NFTs from the original artwork through color variation.
