First 9 weeks of Idena

I joined the Idena network on January 19th. Basically this happened…

  • Downloaded the wallet
  • Entered my invite code
  • Left my laptop on to sync to peers
  • Set my alarm to go off at 13:30 UTC
  • Followed the clear instructions inside the wallet / app.

If I made it sound easy — that’s because it is easy 😱

I think that’s the point, a great user experience doesn’t need someone to explain things. It’s all intuitive and easy to follow. Kind of fun to use actually.

When? What? Where? ⏰

Don’t sweat it, the app will show you the time that you need to complete validations. And, btw, the date and time of the next validation session is always shown on the project landing page.

Validation is when you solve the flip puzzles. Everyone around the world does this at the same time. After validation, you’ll have over a week to create your own flips for other people to solve.

The app tells you how many puzzles to make, then just relax and wait for next validation.

In other words 🍿

Now, is the perfect time to watch this, and hear someone else explain the puzzles much better than I have. This short video is a must see for any young grasshoppers looking to become masters. Credit: Fomonaut

Every week or so I have been doing the same thing.

Create then solve, create some more, solve some more.

At the start it would take me an hour or so to create 3 flips. Now, it’s easier and I’m about twice as fast.

I also think I’m making better quality flips now — thanks to feedback in the #flip-school channel on the Idena discord server.

As you pass more verifications, your account status is updated.

Candidate level is when you have an invite, but haven’t yet passed the first validation session.

After the first validation you’re promoted to Newbie. 3 successful sessions — you’re Verified.

Human status is reserved for verified accounts with more than 92% flip solving accuracy. Me, I’m only at 90% accuracy right now, so I’m Verified.

Hey, yo! Party at Idena’s house and everyone’s invited 🥳

After I reached Verified status on week 3 I had 1 invite to hand out. Discord and Telegram were swimming with invites back then. So it was easy for new-comers to join in.

Since then, I’ve handed all of my invites out via Discord — one after each validation. Except the one for my girlfriend, that was via email . I usually give them to people who look genuinely interested in the project, and always for free.

Recently, as Idena has gained more attention — more people are looking for invites. There’s a #flip-school on Discord where people can get feedback on the quality of the flip puzzles that they create.

Hot tip: get yo ass over to #flip-school

The flip school is a great way to share and take feedback. And, in my opinion, it’s key to having an abundance of quality flips when validation time rolls round.

My advice is, join in if you’re looking for an invite. Flip school graduates, don’t forget to stay in touch to help teach others.

Even if you’re not looking for an invite, the flip-school channel is the right place to share flip feedback or to post your work for peer review.

Quick note, invite quotas have changed recently. Right now, you must have a flip success rate of over 92%, and be at least Verified level. If you’re new to Idena, don’t worry about that for now. Just aim to answer all flips correctly during validation sessions. That will give you the best chance to earn invites to hand out later on.

Show me the rewards 🧧

I’ve been rewarded for:

  • Creating flips
  • Solving flips
  • Inviting successful candidates. Who passed validation

In addition, I’ve been running a low powered laptop with the Idena Wallet open 24/7. This gives mining rewards — Idena should not be confused with Proof of Work rewards ( like with BitCoin ). I need to mention here that Idena’s power consumption is orders of magnitude more efficient than BTC for example. And, I’ll go into detail in a future post.

Running the laptop cost me no more than 0.15c USD per day.

What can you do with the $DNA… to get you started you can…

  • Exchange for BTC at qTrade.io and then to cash.
  • Hold on to it.
  • Buy things.

Sometimes all you have to do is ask. Idena community member agapetos is a developer with a good hand for art. We chatted and he has a gallery, I asked if he would accept $DNA. He agreed, and the art is now on the way from Serbia 😎

The following week 🤑

OK… I got cocky. Confident, maybe over-confident. In the next episode see how week 10 went.
