An Update on the Future of Echo VR

Hello Echo Units,

We hope you all had a Happy New Year!

At Ready At Dawn, we pride ourselves on being open and communicative with our community. To that end, we have news to share… after many discussions internally and with our partners at Meta, we have made the difficult decision to shut down Echo VR.

What does this mean for Echo VR? Well… we’re not shutting it down tomorrow. Echo VR will continue running until August 1, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific, at which point servers and services will be shut down preventing any further play.

By no means was this decision made lightly. But it was made for many good reasons and chief among them is the studio coming together to focus on our next project. We can’t say anything about it yet, but we are all excited and need all hands on deck.

Leading up to August 1st, we’re doing a few things to show our gratitude to this community:

Giveback Event

From now until August 1, 2023, play just one match of either Echo Combat or Arena to unlock:

• All Epic + Superb rarity chassis/booster/bracer sets from Echo Pass seasons 1–6
  - Season 7 rewards to be released at a later date
• All Chassis Variants
• All non-3D rewards from Echo Pass seasons 1–6
  - Season 7 rewards to be released at a later date
• All Echo Shop items
  - Including Starter Bundle
• All previous event rewards
• Some previously unreleased rewards

The following rewards will NOT be included in the event

• VRML rewards
• LE2 Chassis
• Legendary rarity chassis/booster/bracer sets from the previous 7 seasons
• Leveling Track Rewards

Leveling Track

• We will now be granting all leveling track items at lvl 1 so everyone gains access to these rewards without impacting matchmaking quality.

Echo Shop

• We will place all legendary chassis/booster/bracer sets for sale on the Echo Shop at reduced prices until the game shuts down.

Lastly, all add-ons, including Echo Combat, Starter Bundle, and Echo Points, will no longer be available for purchase as of January 31st, 2023.

The entire Ready At Dawn team is grateful to each of you for your help in taking Echo Arena from a small passion project to one of the top VR games on the Oculus Store over the last five years. We’ve been absolutely floored to see the community that has grown around Echo and grateful to all the passionate people we’ve been able to meet online, in the arena, and at events. From our humble beginnings with the ESL’s first few tournaments, to the VRML’s multiple massive seasons and other fun leagues, many fond memories have been made over the years. Remember throwing snowballs with Sakurabot? How about finding the theremin in the customization room? And no one forgets their first full-court goal!

We hope to see you all in our next project and can’t wait to share it with you in the future.

FAQ

Why is support for Echo Arena ending?

• Ready At Dawn is working on our next project and are consolidating studio support to work on it.

When will support end?

• General support will end on January 31st, 2023. The servers will be left up until August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific. The game will no longer be available after August 1st, 2023.

Will there be any additional bug fixes?

• RAD will keep eyes on the state of the game and, if something major happens, will be around to ensure the game runs until August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific. Additionally the Game Admins will be sticking around to keep the space safe and friendly until that point.

Will I still be able to play?

• Yes! Servers will continue to run until August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific. At that point the servers and services will be shutdown preventing any further play.

Will I still be able to access the game?

• The game will remain on the store until August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific so new players can hop in and spend time with this awesome community. After August 1st, the game will no longer be available on the store.

Will I still be able to buy Echo Combat?

• Echo Combat will be removed from the store on January 31st, 2023–10:30AM pst. Players who’ve previously purchased Echo Combat will be able to download and continue playing until August 1st, 2023–10:30AM pst.

If I delete the game will I still be able to re-download it before August 1, 2023?

• Yes! If you delete the game from your headset/PC you will still be able to redownload it before August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific and access all your previous purchases/unlocks. However the game will no longer be playable after August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific.

Why are you giving all that content away for free?

• We wanted to show all our players how much we’ve appreciated their support over the past few years. Sharing this content feels like the best way to thank all the players and offer you all the ability to express yourselves.

What if my giveback items are not showing up?

• In some cases you may need to reboot Echo VR to see the full breadth of items unlocked.

Can I get a refund?

• We do not offer refunds on in app purchases, DLC, and in game currencies. You will still be able to spend your Echo Points until the final day of service on August 1st, 2023–10:00 AM Pacific.
