I grew up as a Bahai (I still am one) and this was the way I was always taught to understand history. As I got older I didn’t understand how people could see it any other way. The world’s great problems don’t stem from the fact that we elected the “wrong” candidate. And electing the “right” person doesn’t magically make them disappear.

Everyone’s outraged that politics has become more volatile, vitriolic, and xenophobic. Like it or not, this is a reflection of our character as a nation. That’s what we need to change, and it won’t change from the top down.
