ESPx Updates

ESPx Current Iteration Overview :

The Eden Smart Proxy (“ESPx”) has the same underlying properties as every other proxy.

Block Producers (“BPs”) can be entered into the proxy’s list to receive the proxy vote by agreeing to a pledge of three conditions:

• Don’t buy/sell/trade votes;
• BProvide regular financial disclosure of their use of BP pay via inflation; and
• Only operate one BP on the network (so no sock puppets)

A whitelisting service will be required to perform the following tasks:

• Collect and aggregate the data from each of the participating BPs and then present this in one location for all to view.
• Conduct live video interviews with each BP whereby any community member can become an auditor by watching these calls and asking questions of the BPs themselves.
• Manage the list of BPs entered into the proxy. This includes allowing new BPs to join it, and removing BPs when appropriate (most often for technical deficiencies).
• Have Active permissions on the ESPx smart contracts to allow for code upgrades and bug fixes.

Dependence on a global community that leverages the Eden election process:

• The whitelisting service providers for this proxy have a lot of power, and therefore will ideally be appointed by a collaborating set of Eden-style communities. That is one whitelist auditor will be appointed by each community’s set of Chief Delegates (“CDs”).
• Once there are more than 30 BPs in the proxy, a means to rank them is required to determine which will receive the vote (noting that at proxy can vote for at most 30 BPs at one time). To do this, the global set of Eden-style community members can log into a web portal and voluntarily rank the BPs. The higher up an individual makes it in an election the more weight their vote will carry. The smart contracts around this proxy will automate the vote selection of this list. In addition, the smart contract can be extra smart and rotate all BPs through the voting list, with the amount of time a BP spends receiving the vote being proportional to its rank in the proxy (more to come on this in an updated version of the ESPx litepaper).
• It has been proposed that network inflation can be directed to the token holders that stake to the ESPx. It is very important to recognize this is the last potential step of this proposal and isn’t at all being realistically suggested in these early stages of the proxy. This is something that would be determined by the BPs to implement, and surely only after the ESPx has proven its merit and that this use of inflation will in fact be beneficial to the network.

Addressing some misconceptions about the ESPx:

• B1 or Helios have no power over this proxy nor its outcome (other than Chris Barnes’ presence on its current MSIG…more on that later).
• BPs joining the proxy are under no obligation to do anything other than meet the pledge. This means they don’t need to turn on inflation for ESPx stakers or unfreeze B1’s tokens.
• One last time for emphasis, B1 nor Helios have any additional control over this proxy other than having members of either organization participating in any of the respective Eden-style communities. They have no special designed privilege or influence.
• Members of any participating Eden-style communities receive no funds explicitly from the ESPx at any time, even if network inflation is turned on. Any and all automated rewards will be directed to the token holders who stake and delegate to the proxy.
• The whitelist service providers will make everything they do 100% transparent. This means all data collected, all video calls with BPs, and all decisions they execute will be fully disclosed for all to see.
• As it is contemplated now, a BP will only be removed from the ESPx if it breaks the pledge or is deemed to be underperforming technically as a BP (E.g. missing rounds/blocks, unacceptably slow CPU speeds etc…)

New Updates to the ESPx:

The following are changes to the ESPx that will be executed soon:

• Chris Barnes will be removed from all of the MSIGs tied to the ESPx smart contracts and its operation. It is clear that some are unable to consider the merits of this proposal because of Chris’ temporary ability to have control over it. This seems to essentially be predicated on his position at Helios and relationship with B1. His removal from the MSIG will allow community members to view the proposal for what it is and not based on who it is associated with.
• Joe Louis of the EOS community will be replacing Chris on the MSIG. Joe is a very well known pseudonymous EOS community member who is incredibly talented and passionate about the merit and importance of the ESPx as a means to improve the state of DPoS on EOS.
• Yves La Rose will also be removed from any ESPx related MSIG. To be clear, the addition of Yves was to symbolize the support that the creators of the ESPx have for the ENF. It was never expected that Yves would participate in the operation of the proxy, but we wanted to make a clear statement that his work is valued and in no way is the intention of the ESPx to disrupt the efforts of the ENF. Now that this gesture has been made, and Yves has indicated he indeed won’t participate, we will remove him out of courtesy and respect for his wishes.
• The name of the Eden Smart Proxy will be changing to the “EOS Smart Proxy”. Another point of confusion and contention is that the Genesis Eden community hasn’t come to consensus on whether they want to contribute to the operation of the ESPx. Some feel as though this is unfair to the Genesis Eden community to be associated with this proxy proposal without their buy-in. We recognize this point, and therefore will be changing the name accordingly. The proxy will still fundamentally require a global set of communities utilizing the Eden-style election process, but they don’t need to be named “Eden” nor is it assumed that the current Genesis Eden community will accept this responsibility.
