A partner at the Birmingham, Alabama-based law firm Gentle Turner Sexton and Harbison, LLC, Edgar Gentle works with courts as a special master and settlement administrator. A former Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, Edgar Gentle went on to earn his juris doctor at the University of Alabama School of Law, which offers a unique law clinic program.

The University of Alabama School of Law stands out as one of only a few law schools in the United States that guarantees students experience in a law clinic. The school features five clinics, in the areas of civil law, criminal defense, elder law, domestic violence law, and mediation law.

Through these five clinics, second- and third-year students serve individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing free legal assistance while gaining invaluable experience representing real clients. In most cases, students serve as “first chair” attorneys and take on a variety of primary responsibilities, from interviewing and counseling clients and planning cases to drafting pleadings and engaging in alternative dispute resolution.
