A vision for technological success across Africa.
They say, Africa lies in the last billion on the planet; only if you judge it from the past. At this rate of innovation (InnovationVillage, iHub) and learning (Andela Nigeria), that trend is bound to change. We have exhibited the fastest growth rate on the planet. The levels of literary are rising, health is improving thanks to the big players involved (shout out to the Bill and Melinda gate foundation, I think I owe @billgates a vaccine at one time).
Also, we are adopting technologies at a remarkable rate. In fact, what puzzles me is that we are adopting it a rate that is nearly the inverse of our current state. I think we have some thing good going on here. New technologies introduced in the First world are applied and scaled into Africa in record time.
New technologies introduced in the First world are applied and scaled into Africa in record time.
Past examples like the smart-phones era,the Ubers (SafeBoda, Yoza-app), social media, smart-energy like solar (largest solar plant to be built) leave little to doubt about this.
More than ever, young enthusiasts in Africa are uniting up across the continent in tech hubs and passion groups (Uganda Py professionals) to try out new technologies and apply them; the rising contribution to global OpenSource projects is amazing too. Clearly stated, The young ambitious and passionate youth of Africa don’t worry about their current situation, they are readily innovating and adopting new technologies at the level of the biggest world economies.
The young ambitious and passionate youth of Africa don’t worry about their current situation, they are readily innovating and adopting new technologies at the level of the biggest world economies.
The problem: While its crystal clear that the biggest advancements in development through technology in Africa are coming from social innovation (WeFarm, SolarNow, WinSenga ….), The problem we have is that these innovations are happening in only a few countries out of out the 56? leaving other regions lagging behind . An example in case: while fresh grads and bachelors in Uganda can hail for the services of a dhobi, house-cleaner with just two taps of an App, their counterparts in kenya still have to carry their baggage looking for similar services in Nairobi CBD, and often fall to the frustration and dis-appointment after shoddy work or going another week without these services at-all. (another example from SA, Nigeria, mm, )
The solution is to put in place a success replicating mechanism through which these start-ups can easily scale and spread into the rest of the continent other than their original country of inception. Our aim is to collect together the random developments into one common medium so that an advancement can easily be adopted in other countries and enable us (as a continent) move at the same rate.
This we shall do by:-
Uniting tech-hubs across Africa to connect innovators across Africa to each other.
Putting together a team of professionals in all counties across the continent. These shall be mostly pooled through Tech-hubs and shall include entrepreneurs, lawyers, marketeers, managers, translators and developers.
We shall study the legal and economic aspects in that country and see what lies in the path of a successful introduction of a particular product/technology.
Through our localised team, introduce and set-up the particular product and drive for its success and scaling through constant communication with the management, marketing team and first experience user.
To do this I need…
You! (to come join me with your thoughts and contributions about this idea), the best communication tools and a team of passionate people who believe in and are ready to work on the idea.
