18. Whacko — His Hypnotic Heartbeat will leave you Powerless to Resist
It is hard not to smile when Whacko is around, whether it be the music he plays, his mesmerising eyes or the crazy sound as he bashes his hammer on his opponent’s head. Other Monsters are drawn to his feel-good vibe claiming him more often as Friend than Foe. Although, unlike SleepShaman, he does not have a direct link into the Eggies World ecosystem, his music often forms a heartbeat rhythm which appears to spring from the very ground itself.
It is not only his music that hypnotises but if he chooses to lock his gaze on a Monster, they can find themselves frozen to the spot, unable to fight or flee. This gives Whacko plenty of time to use the many musical weapons he has in his armoury. Whether it be the explosive power of his Drums or the Flute that fires poison darts so quickly that they pierce the skin before the music reaches the enemy’s ears; attacking is always fun when Whacko is around.
When Whacko drinks the LavaJuice his music seems to take on a life of its own, racing, pulsing until he starts to dance at a dizzying speed. Those nearby have claimed the very air becomes electric to the touch and they find themselves dancing too. Swirling, gyrating, powerless to resist. Until the heartbeat stops and, with a gasp, all collapse on the ground. Some crave the rush of Whacko’s dance, while others are left on the brink of death, just waiting for their hearts to start beating again.
There are moments though, in those dark, cold hours of the night when the only companion is silence, that Whacko changes his tune. His music becomes sad, almost haunting. Maybe Whacko has suffered some terrible loss in his past, or maybe he longs for something, or someone, he can not have. Whatever it is Whacko is not telling.
He will simply smile and dance away.
