6. Spark — The High Flier
Up is down, forwards is backwards, none of it matters as Spark speeds his way through all dimensions. Having the honour of being the first flying Monster that The Professor created he zipped around the lab taking careful note of all that went on below. Memorising the formulas as each new life form was created, computing, calculating at the same dizzying speeds that he flies, sparks of jealousy crackling from his antenna.
Sometimes his curiosity would earn him a swift backhand from The Professor as he was swatted away as though merely an irritating housefly. If only The Professor had truly understood how smart Spark was, he would not have dismissed him so quickly. The other recently hatched Monsters dismissed him too, laughing whenever a miscalculation in his flight path sent him crash landing on to the hard, lab floor.
But those were the early days, before he had truly mastered flying, before he had teamed up with RazorTail to rule the skies, before the others had felt the sting of a hundred pinches from his claw.
Now he hovers with ease high above the trees, the Ice and the Lava Fields of Eggies World. Observing The Professor in his hideout, watching Dr Topaz when she emerges from her cave, even daring to buzz the Corporation’s security forces who always try, and fail, to bring him down with a hail of bullets.
The other Monsters tolerate him too, maybe sensing that more lies behind that metal exterior than just a crazed thrill-seeker. Rumours abound as to why Spark and RazorTail are no longer close allies but no one knows for sure exactly what happened.
Whatever it was it caused a hatred so deep that whenever they clash in the air they claw viciously at each other’s metalskins producing electrical forks of lightning that can be seen for miles.
