Star Wars Rogue One Value Vehicle Range

If you love Star Wars as much as all of us here at Future of the Force you will by now have seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at least once, if not a few times.

Hopefully you enjoyed it just as much as us!

With the release of the latest Star Wars movie it was interesting to find out that the new Value Vehicle range from hasbro.com — that I was only expecting to be out in the United States — was now to be released here in the UK.

The distribution for it was to come through the budget supermarket store Aldi along with a range of many other Star Wars products from books to action figures, plush toys and many others.

The Value Vehicle range also sees the release of the Empire’s TIE Striker Fighter which I will be reviewing in a later article.

Both of these new vehicles cost £17:99.

Most of the stores in my location seemed to have a good supply of the ships and this was a few weeks after the release, so look out for them dropping in price soon, which will make them hard to turn down.

Packaging & Unboxing

The box front features a great artwork print of the Rebel X-Wing fighter which looks amazing. The top of the box shows the latest design of the Rogue One box design that has the Rogue One title with the AT-ACT and Death Trooper in the top right corner.

The rear of the box shows the vehicle in its instantly recognisable attack formation pose ready for battle.

We also get a bio of the Rebel X-Wing:

The X-Wing is a versatile Rebel Alliance star fighter that balances speed with firepower. Armed with four laser cannons and two proton torpedo launchers, the X-Wing can take on anything the Empire throws at it.

Moving around the sides we are treated to another view of the excellent artwork continuing to the final side which shows the option to download the Star Wars StudioFX app.

Inside the X-Wing comes nicely packed. We have the main body and the four laser cannons.

What is good to see is that Hasbro have rectified the issue that was so common with The Force Awakens Poe release: it suffered from the cannons being warped. This needed you to use a few tricks to straighten them out such as heating them under hot water. It was not good to see quality issues of this nature on something you paid £50 for new.

But this version uses a harder plastic that keeps them nice and straight. It is good to see that Hasbro have listened to the complaints from fans.

So as you have seen above there is a little bit of assembly needed to complete the vehicle. This is made nice and easy with the use of a peg system that will only allow the cannons to be fitted to the correct wing.

Once together the X-Wing looks the part.

A nice addition to the design is the inclusion of the landing gear at the front of the vehicle that can be folded up when in flight mode.

Detail

When you take a closer look at the X-Wing you see the attention to detail that has been given to the design and production process. Not only does the fighter have a great amount of detail but you also see that they have even included a very nicely painted R2 unit behind the cockpit.

Attack Run

“Lock S-Foils in attack formation.”

I loved that line as the Rebels started their attack run on the Death Star and it is so nice to get the option to display the fighter in the attack pose. What is also good is that unlike other X-Wing fighters that have been released in the past you are able to get a good amount of angle from the wings and they also stay open.

When you want to close the wings they are nicely clipped together by another peg system.

Conclusion

This is an awesome version of the classic X-Wing and comes in a nice scale that can fit in with other model kits such as those from the likes of Revell.

With nice attention to detail it really shows how well the design has been considered. From the folding landing gear and R2 unit, down to the engine detailing — that with a small amount of dry brushing would make the fighter stand out and look like a nice display piece, which I intend to do ASAP.

This is a highly recommended addition to any collection and with the TIE Striker also you could set the scene of an epic space battle.

If you hold out a little longer they should drop in price and will make such a tempting buy to create your very own squadron of Rebel fighters.
