There is robust research that babies as young as 9 months show different interests in types of toys depending on their gender (https://www.city.ac.uk/news/2016/july/infants-prefer-toys-typed-to-their-gender,-says-study). And, yes, i’m using the traditional definition for gender. Thats another bugaboo, the term gender has been redefined in recent decades as a social construct. Thats fine, but criticizing others for not going along with the change is unserious. We are all born with chromosomes, and those chromosomes ultimately create some wiring in our brains that, on average, differ depending if there is a Y in there or not. We can pretend thats untrue, but facts are stubborn things.

Which isnt to say by any means women dont belong in tech, or should have to endure a hostile environment. But we need to accept the notion that women, on average, are less interested in being in tech, making it difficult to achieve parity. The fact that that is a controversial notion, in fact ‘wrong thought’, is sad and shocking.
