It’s My Birthday … Time to Think About the Passing of Time!
Today really is my birthday 🥳
What does a geek girl dream of receiving? Well, working on the principle that a fully functional version of Apple’s iWork apps is out of the question … it’s been 12 years waiting for that so far … I got thinking about the passing of time. It got scary but that’s another story!
I have a whole range of timer-based apps each one just different enough to warrant having it in the collection. The one I’m sharing today is FlexTime from Red Sweater Software.
What sets FlexTime apart from other timer apps is the fact that you are encouraged to create a series of sequenced timed events rather than set a single duration for one task. The stringing together of multiple sequential slices of time makes FlexTime perfect for Time Blocking.
The impact of this is you don’t have to make decisions about what to do next in the moment. Being forced to make decisions in the moment can be draining to the point of inducing paralysis.
FlexTime doesn’t distinguish between work and breaks so you can sequence alternating work sprints and recovery breaks in any way that suits you. Each session can be completed with either a customized alarm sound, a message or you could even opt to have your computer speak to you!
Be it keeping you on track with the washing or baking a cake it’s an amazing relief to have to face a job and know you have already created a sequence to guide you through it.
The sequences you create can be repeated as necessary in any time frame you need, immediately, daily, weekly, monthly, whenever you need.
For the uber geeks out there FlexTime is scriptable so enjoy yourself with that!
Got to go … I have birthday cake to devour 🎂
