Differences between Electric vehicles & ICE vehicles

Electric vehicles are playing an important role in reducing carbon footprints all over the world. It is a long-time solution to save the environment and as well as human health. However, the combustion engines are ruling the roads for decades now. But by the name (combustion) itself we can understand it burns, it burns many harmful gases such as CO2 which pollutes the air badly. We can adopt electric vehicles as much as possible to reduce pollution levels in the world. In this article, we will discuss what are the differences between electric vehicles and ICE engine vehicles.

So, let me quickly remind you what are electric vehicles and ICE vehicles?

Electric vehicles

Its unique features eco-friendly, high speed and no noise attracting the customers globally. Unique features make Electric Vehicles different from other gasoline Vehicles as it creates very less amount of air and noise pollution.

  • The gasoline engine is replaced by an electric motor.
  • The controller is the power source for the electric motor and
  • The controller gets its power from an array of rechargeable batteries.
  • It doesn’t consume gasoline or produces tailpipe carbon emissions.

ICE Vehicles

ICE vehicles are classified as a heat engine as the combustion of the air-fuel mixture occurs inside the engine, in a combustion chamber and some burned gases are part of the new combustion cycle.
The internal combustion engine transforms the thermal energy of the burning air-fuel mixture into mechanical energy.

Differences between Electric vehicles & ICE vehicles

Parts (components)

In another way, it is an exothermic chemical reaction that involves fuel and oxidants. It needs fuel, air and a large number of parts that work together to control the process. In electric vehicles, there are no moving parts in the engine and have very few parts.

Faster

Electric vehicles are much faster than the combustion ones. As they can produce high torque. Whereas combustion engines reach that torque after gaining the speed.

Lightweight

Electric vehicles are lightweight as there is no extra kilos weight of huge amounts of parts under the hood.

Low maintenance

Electric vehicles are popularly known for their low maintenance features. As there are not many moving parts, the cost of maintenance will also be lower. When we talk about the ICE there are a lot of things that need to be checked regularly such as changing oil, Automatic transmission fluid, Coolant, Fuel, spark plugs and wires, muffler, brakes, water pump, and whatnot. When comes to EVs, the regenerative brakes will save you a lot of time when compared to combustion vehicles.

Driving techniques

Little difference can be seen in the driving experiences for an EV user when compared to an ICE vehicle.

Different look

EVs look slightly different in terms of appearance. It doesn’t have a tailpipe emission. The design, whether the interiors or the exteriors, the designers try to maximize the vehicle’s energy efficiency. EVs will have aerodynamic exteriors which makes them look futuristic or sometimes funny too to some.

Fuel Tank

An electric vehicle stores electricity in a battery and ICE vehicle store in a fuel tank.

Different fuels

Electric vehicles use electricity as fuel and electricity can be obtained from many places. The ICE vehicle uses fuels which can be obtained from only petrol stations.

Quite and a smoother ride

Electric vehicles provide quieter and smoother rides than ICE vehicles. In ICEV, the controlled explosion takes place internally which generates vibration and sound and in EV there is a little friction between the components which results in absence of sounds.

Fuel costs

Electric vehicles can be charged easily at home or on any public charging stations and many state governments have provided tariff plans to charge an EV. Even if it is not there, charging an EV costs you lesser than fueling up your ICE tank.

Rebates and incentives

If you want to buy an EV, then you will get incentives provided by the government under the FAME II scheme, whereas an ICE vehicle doesn’t get anything as such.
