Make a Classic Creme Brulee
To make a classic creme brulee, follow the recipe below:
Ingredients:
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus extra for caramelizing
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For caramelizing:
- Additional granulated sugar
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until well combined and slightly thickened.
3. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it reaches a gentle simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
4. Slowly pour the hot cream mixture into the egg yolks while continuously whisking. This process is called tempering and helps prevent the eggs from curdling.
5. Once the mixture is well combined, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve into a pouring jug or bowl. This step helps remove any lumps or air bubbles.
