Unfortunately this is not the case exactly. It is Plato’s (in fact Socrates’) view and metaphor about “Self Knowledge”. Or finding the truth (overcome oblivion because knowledge is inside yo, it only needs to get out).
The greatest truth that Socrates taught was “Know Thyself”. And the process to this is a difficult and painful journey that, when finished, will make you (most assuredely) unpleasant to your fellow people. But also free. Because noone is free if he doesn’t undertake thios journey.
In order to find this unique truth that you need (Self Knowledge), you will also need a teacher (a master, or guide to be exact) who will show you the way but will not walk it for you.
Because the good teacher is the one that shows you a place, but he does not tell you what to see.
So it has nothing to do with education the way we understand the term today. This “education” that Plato speaks about, is totally uknown and completely strange to us nowadays.
