Thank you so much for your kind words, Edd. You have no idea how much your response means to me, especially the mention of one of my best-loved writers, Thomas Hardy, and The Darkling Thrush — deepest winter, a frail little bird who seems to know something. I can see why you thought of the poem.

Thomas Hardy actually lived a couple of miles away from my ancestors. I often wonder whether they knew him. :)
