i have nothing to eat

Staring at my fridge, I see 1 bag of old carrots, 1 pack of sandwich meat, 3 miller lites, 4 budweiser's, club soda, a bag of limp kale and 1 cheese stick.

“Ugh! I have nothing to eat,” I exclaim to myself, pitying and blaming my lack of contents in my bank account, while considering throwing everything away and running to Taco Bell for some comforting melted cheese.

Which I did.

A few hours later, while feeling absolutely depleted of energy due to my Taco Bell, I read a chapter of my journaling book which talks about staying organized and planning meals in order to not waste food.

And I got thinking more metaphorically — did I really have nothing to eat?

How many times in our daily lives do we look at the fridge and say, “I have nothing to eat.” How many times do we stare at our closet and say, “I have nothing to wear.” How about all the times we say “I have nothing to do.” And the most painful of all to admit — how many times do we look at our life and feel like we don’t have enough?

Looking at my fridge, I could’ve made use of those veggies earlier, and could save money on buying drinks later with my high class beer already in the fridge. I could put together a sandwich with the pack of ham or eat the cheese stick as a little snack instead of throwing it away.

There’s a lot of things in my life that we overlook far too often, which I’m guilty of as well. I’m lucky to have stuff in my fridge and items in my closet.

See the “shambly fridge” as an opportunity to make something cool out of what you have already or to remind yourself to not let things go bad — metaphorically and symbolically.
