It has not been horrible for survival — most of what we learn is habitual and this has helped us survive. For example, driving a car. Once you learn how to do this, your brain isn’t focused on learning how to do it every single time. Your brain goes into autopilot, and this helps you focus on other things / do things more efficiently.
