That has not been my experience at all. What do you refer to when you mention speed? At least on Linux, there’s no noticeable performance difference, because the files are just on disk anyway.

If anything it speeds up development time because this standard setup works for everything (instead of having to deal with specific toolchains if you don’t want to), it’s much easier to debug production issues related to environment, and you simply have way less environment related issues.
