“Give Cash, Not Food”

I’ve just been thinking this, myself! I need to be more generous with food banks, but literally my two experiences volunteering at two food banks kind of brought that to light. The first was helping to sort donations during a holiday food drive. The food bank was expecting so many donations of boxed mac and cheese that it had its own category (which… I mean, I know that it’s filling and easy to make, but if people can afford to donate to people who can’t afford to feed themselves, why not donate real food?) Close behind that was probably pasta and tomato sauce/canned tomatoes/tomato paste, which I thought was a pretty decent donation, until last week I saw pallets of pasta and canned tomatoes in the storage warehouse of another food bank. The timing of this couldn’t be better.
