Excellent article. I’m sort of neutral about Zimmer — love the new stuff he brought to the table with the synths and repetition, less care for how conventional he is in other areas. Could definitely use a bit less orchestras in movies and more innovative sonic repertoires like what you might expect from Cliff Martinez or Angelo Badalamenti. Considering the diversity of musical styles that exists on this planet it’s pretty odd that the sound of a classical orchestra would dominate scores so heavily.
