The list for “Why I List” (3 June 15)

  1. Lists make me organised (or at least make me feel that way)
With the amount of information we gather everyday; tasks to complete, people we met or news around the world; I simply don’t have time to dig through the details for everything. With the help of some amazing tools like “Workflowy” and “Any.do”, I can sort my life with a few clicks of a button.
  2. Lists tell me what to do next
Well it’s more like me telling myself what to do next since I write the list, but it helps to visualise my tasks and prioritise them. It might not work for everyone and could potentially reduce your productivity, but that’s for another time to discuss.
  3. Lists reduce my workload
You ask, HOW? Good question. Once I have my list in front of me, I remove the stuff I don’t actually to do; group the ones that are similar to each other; decide the best way/tool to do it.
    For example a presentation:
First, go to the library with my laptop, and I get quick access of books and people for my research.
Second, the list. “What I WANT to present”.
Third, list out “what I NEED to present” and take away tasks from “what I want to present”.
Forth, group and prioritize in the most efficient way.
    Fifth, start working on them.
Maybe sixth, I always put additional tasks at the end of my list so I could tick things off, who doesn't like that feeling when you see a list with all the tasks crossed out!
  4. Lists helps me remember
If I didn't write a list of what to type here, I would've forgotten everything after 5 minutes.
If I'm not blogging a list here, I’d still be on my first paragraph trying to remember what to type
    If I … I think you get the gist…
  5. Lists make it easier for people to read
If there was less paragraphs in my history book at school, I might have read it and passed. Paragraphs are needed for extensive explanations but very often it’s just easier to read a list, and to understand a list. Plus lists tend to be shorter, which is nice for lazy people like me.
