Brilliant essay which took me a while to get into, as the writing is a little more theoretical and intellectual than standard internet fare.

I totally agree. And you explained something which I’ve been wondering about for a long time, which is why porn is so story-less, so contextless, so lacking in the fullness of human connection. This aspect of porn troubles me greatly; porn depicts sex as a kind of anti-intimacy, when sex is in fact the most intimate thing two humans can do together.

This elimination of true intimate context from porn does engender rape culture. And it has bled into a dating culture that many consider to be rife with a kind of soul rape, in which human connection, compassion, conscience and social responsibility become absent from sexual encounters.

Fuckboyism is a plague upon this nation. I’m serious. Too many millennial men want NSA sexual encounters and anything that smacks of the real intimacy of relationship leads them to freak and bail.

Ironically women tend to find context and relational intimacy more erotic than the faceless nameless meeting of body parts that porn portrays. I am a woman with a healthy sex drive, however I don’t watch porn cause I find it both dull and toxic. I do enjoy erotica, erotica stories and romance, and often find these materials far more arousing than pornography.
