I didn’t know of David Carson so thank you for introducing me to his works!

The early works of Neville Brody comes to mind, even if it tend to be a bit more ordered chaos than the grungy look of Carson.

I tend to think of the movements that I referred to as more anti-establishment and DIY, which resonates with the anti-design notion, thus the design becomes an extension of an idea or concept that is very local to the artist or the creator.

I have a harder time to see the same anti-establishment or strong concept resonate with mainstream artists, on the other hand, it might just be because I am not familiar with the specifics of each individual artists hardships. Or the assumption that there’s a large agency whipping up an edgy design to back a major release.
