Postmodern Feminism is essential

When reading Natasha Walter’s Living Dolls, I was intrigued by Walter’s recognition of society’s tolerance of hyper sexualisation. In our society sexism is unavoidable, due to the emphasis we put on beauty. Many women have felt the need to look ‘acceptable’ in order to be considered as an equal member of society by their male counterparts. I found this worrying in consideration of my own self-awareness and for my future in this world where image dictates your professional standing rather than your accomplishments and ability. Feminism has never been so important before, it is apparent that women’s aspirations have drifted away from fundamental issues including equality within the workforce.
