You need to slow down before you speed up

The last quarter of the year is almost upon us. This is a good time to speed up so that we can catch up with our goals. But sometimes, it is important that we slow down before we speed up. Why? Because slowing down allows us to re-evaluate, adjust and gather momentum for the next leg of the race.

As fitness lovers who have made fitness a priority, it is important that we treat our fitness goals like we treat every other goal. And now that the final quarter of the year is here, it will be a good idea to take time reevaluate our fitness goals and make plans to make the next four months better than the last eight months.

Below are the three things I think we all need to do before we speed up.

Do an honest assessment

Eight months have already gone by, how far have you come with the fitness goal you set for yourself at the beginning of the year? Are you closer to your goals or are you farther away from them?

Whether we planned for it or not, we didn’t get to where we are today by accident, we got here by design. There is a need to become more aware of where you in your fitness journey and how you got there. Identify what is working and what is not working, and have the courage to double down and put more effort into what is working and the willingness to discard what is not working.

Whatever the result of your assessment is, please know that is always room for improvement.

Renew your commitment

Success, whether in business or in fitness, is by design. There is nothing like an accidental success. We plan for success, we work the plan and we get results.

What do you need to do to get the results you are looking for? What actionable steps do you need to take? This is not the time to slow down to stop. It is the time to gather momentum and double down.

Renew your commitment to your fitness goals and keep moving in their direction. Make a deposit into fitness (savings) account every day and be consistent in your actions until your expectation becomes your reality.

Find someone to hold you accountable

We all need people because nobody can succeed in isolation . Do you have Fitfriends who are always encouraging you to become a better version of yourself? You need people who to keep you accountable. People who can pull you back when relapse happens — because relapse will happen at one point or the other.

Fitness enthusiasts like you are everywhere. Just look around you (online and offline) and you find groups of fitness-minded people you can be a part of.

I believe you can still make some strides in your fitness journey before the year runs out. But, you must be willing to show up every day for the rest of the year and give your best effort.

Remember, the athletes who will win medals at the Olympics don’t prepare every four years, they prepare every day. Don’t wait until December before you start giving your best effort. Give you best effort every day from today.
