Day12-Self Doubt
It’s Everywhere

Aug. 16th, 2016
You look at Steve Jobs, you look at Mark Zuckerberg, you look at Bill Gates, you look at Elon Musk, you look at Gary Vaynerchuk and what do you see? Success. Confidence. Incredible achievement and accomplishment.
You attend the networking event. You listen to others pitch their startups. What do you hear? Progress. Improvement. Raising rounds. New major clients. Increased sales. New hires.
This is what you hear & see, left and right, from the legends to your peers. But why? WHY is this the case? Simple, we are in this culture: fake it till you make it. We need to consistently be telling people how good things are going, and when we do this, we can get buy-in, and once we get buy-in, we can make it happen.
For me, I have always struggled with this culture. It is just unhealthy. Telling people one thing, and feeling something else. I think faking things is generally a bad idea. How about this, work till you make it. You tell people you aren’t making it, and when you do make it, you show people. Simple.
This may take more time. But I think it is a healthier approach. But who knows. When I have told the truth in times when I am being evaluated, that has often backfired. So maybe there is a time and a place to be completely real and another time and place to really hit sales mode.
Anyway, I want to share with you some self-doubt that I am currently facing. Although I am excited for this new direction, I am also doubtful, since there is a lot to doubt when it comes to the unknown.
