Day8-Entrepreneurship in B-more
A City with Depth

Aug. 12th, 2016
Today was a good day. I started the day by driving downtown to meet with Scott Burkholder. Scott is an entrepreneur with an agency that promotes and empowers creative entrepreneurship in the city of Baltimore. He also leads a curriculum at ImpactHub training entrepreneurs via the SpringU curriculum. Below you can listen to a quick 1:00 clip from our conversation.
After a great conversation w. Scott, I hoped on the phone with Phil from the Collaborative Entrepreneurship Network. The collaborative entrepreneurship network is a really exciting initiative, the mission of that network STRONGLY aligns with my personal mission and with the company mission of FailUp: democratizing entrepreneurship.
So it was really fascinating to have a conversation and learn more about their work, and to see how I may contribute and add value to their network. We certainly shared interest in working together.
Oh, and by the way, the results of my experiment from yesterday, hardly any comments or engagement. I may very well be talking just to myself, my mom, and a few friends. Revealing. Very revealing.
So the key insight I have here, social media can be and often is a very lonely place, even though you are “friends” with many people. Without asking others to follow and pay attention to you, people won’t, and your posts, your perspective, and your voice gets drowned. Today, we are all dealing with information overload. Unless your audience really cares about you and what you are doing, or gains real, direct value, it is hard to be heard. #wefailup
QUESTIONS I HAVE FOR READERS/LISTENERS
How do you feel when you are on social media? Do you feel isolated or connected? What sort of content and people do you follow? Have you been “successful” with your online identity?
