TL;DR
Unlike the usual training / blessing, equipment forging allows you to forge / re-forge a specific equipment, with a much higher success rate.
A hint for all players: Since the fee for equipment forging is higher than normal training, usually it’s better to only use it when you’re stuck in usual training.
Technical Details
As mentioned in the training mechanics primer post, equipments of heroes are persisted in the blockchain as an “attributes string”, whenever you train/bless your hero in a dungeon, the attributes of your hero will be shuffled and a new set of attributes will be formed, if the new power is less than the original power, the training is determined as “failed”.
The new equipment forging / re-forging feature allows player to upgrade a specific equipment without reshuffling the entire attribute string. Which provide players an option to collect specific equipments efficiently.
One simple rules of thumb will be, use the normal Hero Training / Blessing until you get most of the equipments in a dungeon, then use Equipment Forging in to upgrade the last remaining equipment(s).
