Artists That Should Be on Your Radar Fall 2018
This summer pretty much consisted of the releases from the top artists in the game. Drake, Kanye & G.O.O.D Music Affiliates, Rocky, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Pusha T, Mac Miller, among many others, all dropped LPs of ranging lengths (from seven songs to twenty-five plus). That being said this past summer’s top tier releases took up a lot of space and attention in the release schedules for many artists. As we gear up for the fall season, there are a couple artists that have been steadily gaining a significant amount of attention over the course of the spring and summer, but because of the focus on the release of larger records, they haven't been able to soak up much of the spotlight competing for listens. Now as the fall months have come around, and the major releases have come and gone, it’s prime time for these artist to break out and establish their name in the game. That being said, here’s five new acts that are on an upward trend heading into this autumn season.
- Sheck Wes (“Chippi Chippi”)

-A pretty obvious pick here, but nonetheless, Sheck Wes has been on the rise since this past spring with the rise of his hit song “Mo Bamba”, which just made its debut on the Hot 100. There aren’t many songs in his catalog but the from the few records that have been out through his soundcloud, including “Live Sheck Wes” which is another banger, it’s easy to see why Travis Scott signed him in the first place. Right now he’s really riding off the strength of his live performances, as good as an artist as he is, his performances are full of that same energy, if not more than what you hear on the track. Look for him to keep gaining attention as the year winds down and he prepares for the release of his debut project Mudboy.
2. Summer Walker (“Girls Need Love” )

-Its not secret females have been slowly taking over the R&B scene this year with the rise of acts from the likes of H.E.R., Ella Mai, Jorja Smith, and Queen Naija just to name a few. Walker follows the same layout of mood-setting, hazy R&B, but it’s her captivating voice and artistic vision that has given her a leg up on her peers. Look out for the single “Girls Need Love” to grow this season and set her up for the coming winter, the song and the video accompanying it are a great introduction to her discography.
3. Nebu Kiniza (“Don’t”)

- Nebu Kiniza has been gaining steam since the release of his lowkey banger “Gassed Up” back in 2017. His recent project From Me 2 U is full of highlights, and shows his versatility over laid back trap instrumentals. His music embodies a good time and his style is a little bit reminiscent of a Lil Skies with his relaxed flow, and lack of autotune. He’ll continue to grow his fanbase as more and more people hear his name and his music. Keep an eye on him for sure as an rapper too be seen on top tier production in the future.
4. Shoreline Mafia (Bands)

- Shoreline Mafia is an L.A. based collective that has been popping on the West Coast for the past year. With their hit song “Musty” and their first project Shoreline Do That Shit, it’s easy to see why they’ve been starting to make waves across the country. Shoreline Mafia’s music is simply disrespectful to say the least, and their give-no-fucks attitude is really what drives their music. Catchy hooks filled with West Coast slang and that bounce that has driven the likes of YG to stardom is what has caught the attention of many of their fans. They recently signed a deal with Atlantic records this past year, so I expect some big collaborations for them in the future, but in the meantime you can check out their latest offering Party Pack.
5. Goonew (Nightmares)

-DMV rapper Goonew/Goonrich/Goonwick, is without a doubt one of the most interesting listens in the rap game in the past year. His off-kilter, flow is really what sets him apart from every other rapper out, and when I say off- kilter, I really mean it. Goonew knowingly raps off beat, but still has the control and ability as an MC to slide on haunting, percussion driven instrumentals without a skip of a breath. It’s definitely a style that will take a couple listens to get into, but I have no doubt will see a lot more attention from heavyweights in the game in the coming months.
