I’d be more than happy to do away with downvotes, but I don’t agree that everyone who downvotes does so for selfish reasons. I was trying to make that clear with my interpretation of how downvotes are used (whether or not that’s how they should be used).

I should also clarify that I rarely cast downvotes, especially on questions. If I choose to do so it will almost always be accompanied by something like a comment or flag.

Thank you for your analogy, but I’ve been through “hey, I would like to know more about Rust” followed by a downvote and feelings of “fuck those people,” but it passes. I think it’s not a very mature response.
