Coming Before The Throne Of God
Coming Before The Throne Of God

Revelation 4:1–11

We often talk about coming before the throne of God, in praise, in worship, in humble exaltation, in reverence to our King. What is it that we are seeing when we approach the throne room of our creator? Revelation 4:1–11 gives us the beautiful understanding that when we come before the throne of God that beauty is defined, God is exalted, holiness is honored, praise is lifted up, man is humbled, authority is revered, and worship is consummated.
We rightly understand God as the King of the universe.

Psalm 95:1–3 says,
“ Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord is the great God, And the great King above all gods.”
And the Bible pictures God sitting on a throne of majesty and greatness.

Isaiah 6:1 says,
“ In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.”
We read in Daniel 7:9
“ I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, it’s wheels a burning fire.”

Perhaps the most beautiful picture of God on the throne is laid out before us in Revelation 4:1–11; I encourage you brothers and sisters,to read this passage of Scripture before you read any further……I’ll wait….
Today, let’s close our physical eyes, and open our spiritual eyes and see the throne of God as it is pictured in Revelation 4…….

We are walking up the steps to the gates of the throne room and the great golden doors slowly swing open before us as we approach. We see this extraordinary, tremendous picture that has been presented.

The Almighty I AM, our Father, is on His throne surrounded by the cherubim. The twenty four elders are surrounding Him. The sea of glass spreads out from the throne like a floor of crystal. Our hearts beat heavy in our chest and our knees become weak with a NEED to kneel…we are in the presence of GOD. What happens now? What do we see? What do we feel? What can we expect?

Beauty is defined. As we look all around we see a beauty that can not be put into words, but expressed only in the deepest parts of our beings where our soul weeps in breath taken astonishment. This is a spiritual beauty experienced only outside the realm of the physical. The beauty of God. We haven’t seen true beauty until we’ve seen God. God’s beauty surpasses the workmanship of man’s hands, the world of creation, and even the purest most moral of lives.

Psalm 27:4 says,
“ One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek, That I may dwell in the house of the Lord, All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.”
Revelation 4:3 says,
“ And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.”

If we take a look at this piece of scripture it gives a depth of description. The jasper and sardius stones are deeply red in color and the emerald is a deep green. This passage is describing a beauty drawn deep to brilliant depths.

As we approach the throne, God is exalted. By definition exalted means :
raised or elevated, as in rank or character; of high station
God Almighty is that King sitting on His throne in the throne room of heaven.

Psalm 57:5 says,
“ Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, Let Your glory be above all the earth.”
Isaiah 25:1 says,
“O Lord, You are my God.I will exalt You,I will praise Your name,For You have done wonderful things;Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.”

The vision of exaltation can be seen in vs. 4–6 with the surrounding sea of glass, the 24 elders surrounding the throne, the four beasts full of eyes and the lightnings and thunder and voices….and finally The Almighty sitting on His throne! What a vision of exaltation!

As we approach the throne, holiness is honored. Holiness is not something that is honored in this world today. In the world today it is disparaged, scandalized and put down. Nothing is sacred. Speech is corrupt, filthy and vulgar. Sexual morals are loose, adulterated and profane. Personal relationships and entertainment are much of the time one and the same.

Psalm 14:1 says,
“ The fool has said in his heart “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.”

However, before the throne of God, holiness is honored!
Holiness is that sacredness and purity of words, deeds and thoughts which cannot be condemned. It’s coming before the Lord of lords and King of kings and emptying one’s self of self and denying all to become righteous because He is righteous. At the throne of God, once poured out and empty, we have the opportunity to be meshed together as one with the Almighty and honor holiness.

1 Peter 1:15–16 says,
“…but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

At the throne of God, man is humbled. Humility is to not think or behave more highly than one ought to.

Romans 12:3 says,
“ For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”

If one is to truly step back and consider God and who He is, and the fragility of man, there is no other avenue but that of humility for all of mankind at the throne of God. Take a look at what the Psalmist says
Psalm 144:3–4,
“Lord, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow.”
Take notice of Revelation 4:9–10
“Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne…”

The 24 elders fall down before the throne of God, they cast their golden crowns before His throne….they and all that they have are humbled before His magnificence. ALL are humbled before the King.
At the throne of God, praise is lifted up.

Praise is the act of revering, honoring, blessing, glorifying, celebrating, extolling, adoring and magnifying.
Psalm 145:21 says,
“ My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, And all flesh shall bless His holy name Forever and ever.”

In the presence of God, praise leaps from our lips as our spirits stretch forth to reach closer to our King, ever seeking to touch His glory.

Psalm 148:13 says,
“ Let them praise the name of the Lord, For His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven.”
Revelation 4:11 says,
“ You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.”

God is worthy to receive our praise. God and only God, as He made and sustains all things.

Hebrews 13:15 says,
“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

At the throne of God, authority is respected. To respect authority is to do things as the One in authority deems necessary. Jesus never went beyond God the Father’s authority.

John 12:49–50 says,
“ For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told me, so I speak.”

Before the throne of God, there is only the authority of God. There exists only the will of God and man’s yielding to that will; man’s inventions and ceremonies are absent as they are unauthorized and useless. The worship of our Holy and Perfect God is conducted according to His perfect pleasure and will. It is for God’s pleasure that we and all things were created; we exist to please Him. We must worship as He has authorized, in spirit and in truth.

John 4:24,
“ God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

At the throne of God, worship is consummated, made complete, whole, brought together from the worshiper to the worshiped. Worship is the total and complete adoration and devotion to another; and God is the only One worthy of our worship.

Revelation 19:10 says,
“ And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
Revelation 22:9 says,
“Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.”

These Scripture admonish us to worship God, and no other. God is our creator and we owe Him and no other our praise, honor, adoration and worship. When we come to the throne of God we cannot help but to worship Him.

Psalm 29:2 says,
“ Give unto the Lord the glory due to His Name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”

So what happens at the throne of God? What is it that we see? What is the experience? What can we expect? Beauty is defined beyond expression to the point of a weeping spirit in joy unbound, our soul will lift up the Name of the Lord in proclamation of His everlasting greatness to the heavens beyond; our spirit of self will be humbled to it’s rightful place and know it’s Maker as it’s Master and sing from it’s deepest depths praises of joy and honor. Holiness will be honored and authority will be revered. The brilliance and depth of God can be understood on a spiritual level, causing a growth in faith that will bring one’s worship to a level never known before and leave the recipient of the experience in earth shaking awe.
Come to the throne room today my friend, seek His face, and He will change your life….forever….amen
