The Forbidden City museum has opened an ecommerce shop on Taobao (Alibaba Group). Not to sell like other museums keychains, calendars, red calendars, or figurines. But the webshop has been launched through a campaign that made a lot of noise.
Created by its designers and community managers, it consists in releasing official images of the China emperors that everyone knows in the country in very funny and quirky way. Indeed, instead of representing these dignitaries sitting as usual very rigid and strict, they made them appear in unexpected and modern situations such as taking selfie, wearing John Lennon’s shades etc. Revamping radically its image.
