But isn’t the very notion of politicised news media recipe for journalistic disaster? Should we not instead re-emphasize the distinction between facts and opinions, or better still, between facts (which should be sacred), interpretation of facts (which should be considered), and opinions (which should be pluralistic)? Decades of research about gatekeeping, news framing and the rest of it have taught us that there is no such thing as neutral, objective, factual reporting (and if there was such thing, it would be unbearably boring), but the escalation in opiniated reporting has gone much too far in making everything a matter of opinion, even the most verifiable facts.
