Just like when, in a real war-time situation, ARA San Luis and ARA Santa Fe succeeded in sinking British carriers in the Falklands war.
Oh wait, that didn’t happen. Instead one was captured and the other spent the war tooling around without hitting anything.
I get what David Axe is saying here, but situations where subs basically had multiple opportunities over years to sneak up on carriers are not certain evidence that carriers are basically sub-fodder and aren’t a worthwhile investment. This is especially the case where carriers were the ONLY way of projecting the power necessary to acheive victory — as RN carriers were in the Falklands war.
