Why I Work So Hard In My Business

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
Simon Sinek

Have you ever spent time answering the question, “Why?”

I started a business a few years ago, and a blog a few years before that. I moved across the country last year, from Pittsburgh to California, and the year before traveled to various cities around the U.S and Canada.

I never stopped to ask myself why these experiences were important; I just did them. I followed my instinct. If I had to answer, “Why” when I was making these life-changing decisions, I’m not sure I wouldn’t liked the answer. It was much easier to explain at the time: I didn’t know what else to do.

Why is a question that most people avoiding asking. The answer, if we are really honest, isn’t always a positive one. Sometimes our whys are fueled by what we’re unhappy with, or uneasy about, in our lives.

Have you taken the time to define the whys in your life? Really investigated why you’ve made the decisions that you’ve made up until now?

Stop what you’re doing in this moment. Take a moment to look at your surroundings. Absorb where you are in room, in your life, and in the world. Questions will arise for themselves.

  • Why am I doing this?
  • Why am I here?
  • Why am I worried?
  • Why do I care?
  • Why am I single?
Why, why, why????

I decided that it was time for me to answer one very important question, “Why do I have a business?”

I started to wonder constantly, “What’s so important about being an entrepreneur or a business owner? Why am I continuing The Dating Truth, even though it’s not making me rich, or particular happy, or fulfilled?”

After sometime, a little over a year to be exact, it came to me.

My answer to MY WHY is: to help people.

Once I drilled down to what the most important things in the world were to me. It was easy to identify the one quality that I equated with my happiness, it was helpfulness. The ability to make a difference in anyone’s life is the reason that I continue to create content, share stories and connect with singles around the world. If anyone watches my videos or my reads an article and feels in any way impacted, then my work is done.

My why is to help others feel connected to the love that’s already available to them.

I’ve been silent in business over the last year as I tried to discover my why. Once the clarity hit I saw no reason to be inactive any longer. Why not take action, or to do everything possible to make my business thrive, now that it’s clear to me why I’m doing this.

What questions are you asking around your why, and have you found the answers? Let me know.
