How FUSIAN is making decisions today to ensure tomorrow

Since our beginning in 2010, the decisions we’ve made to be a socially conscious business have been inspired by our mantra to “do the right thing”. Every action has a consequence and we strive to make decisions that will bring the biggest benefit to our guests, the communities we are a part of, and the environment around us. From determining which partners we work with and which products we serve to how we create the spaces we call home, we believe that if we do the right thing, we all win.

Here are a few of the ways we’re taking care of the earth and each other:

We partner with suppliers that share our vision of responsibly sourced food, some based right here in Ohio, to bring you the highest quality protein with the lowest environmental impact.

  • Ohio is landlocked, which makes sourcing seafood locally nearly impossible. Our seafood supplier, True World Foods, imports 500–800lbs of fresh seafood daily to their processing and distribution center right here in Ohio.
  • Our tuna is caught off the coast of Indonesia using the long-line method. This method of catching one fish with one line (no nets) inhibits overfishing and bycatch.
  • We choose to serve Yellowfin Tuna — a more sustainable source of Tuna compared to other varieties like Bluefin tuna, which is currently endangered due to overfishing.
  • Our Norwegian Salmon is freshwater-farm-raised in Scotland. By farm-raising salmon, our suppliers can achieve a high regeneration rate, which ensures the longevity of the species and limits harm to the environment. We can also ensure they’re fed an all-natural diet, because fish deserve good eats too.
  • We source our chicken from a family owned and operated business, Vitale Poultry, located in Columbus Ohio since 1938. Vitale Poultry is a member of Ohio Proud, which promotes products raised by local farmers.
  • We partner with Ohio farms like SunSprouts, Wiers Farms and Fulton Farms to source regional produce when possible. Local sources cut down on transportation, support regional prosperity and help maintain a closer connection to the product you eat.
  • All of our produce is sourced whole and prepared fresh by our teams in house on the daily.
  • When in season, veggies are served within 24–72 hours of being picked.
  • Our loose-leaf hot teas are sourced from Boline Apothecary in Columbus, Ohio and are made with herbs grown by Ohio-based farmers.
  • We provide plant-based, ecofriendly food packaging, drinkware and flatware on dine-in items.
  • You’ll find 100% post-consumer paper products in all our stores.
  • Each of our restaurants has a recycling station for drink bottles and boxes.
  • Where possible, we compost our kitchen food scraps and other organic materials.
  • Our avocado pits are upcycled — grab a “grow your own avocado” kit at any of our restaurants and grow your own avocado tree — for free!

We design our restaurants with purpose. Every FUSIAN location is equipped with environmentally conscious technology, including:

  • Touchless low-flow faucets and energy efficient hand dryers
  • High-efficiency appliances and equipment
  • Low-VOC paints and stains
  • Low-voltage LED lights
  • Hand soap made from 100% organic oils and natural essential oils sourced from and produced by Glenn Ave Soap Company of Columbus, Ohio.
  • Environmentally conscious building materials, like renewable red cedar which has one of the lowest environmental impacts and high regeneration rates
  • Small footprints and open floorplans which allow us to conserve utilities and minimize excess use of building material and finishes

At FUSIAN, we value transparency. So we will be the first to admit we don’t have it all figured out. But we work every day to get closer. We have made great strides in being as sustainable as possible, but there is always room to learn, grow and improve — we call this KAIZEN.
