Falling Deeper into Faith: Reflections before the Mission of a Lifetime
A guest post by YWAM missionary Damaris Barrios
I never realized that I had an adventurous spirit until I travelled to the South Pacific in August of 2016. I had prayed about going, and through faith I went. I did the most daring thing while in New Zealand — I got on the Nevis Swing and I still can’t believe that the Lord allowed that to happen! I confess- I was extremely scared; scared of slipping from the harness and falling to my death, amongst other things.
After a while of praying and, finally, swinging, I felt this exhilaration and incredible joy! I know that God has me in the palm of His hands because it is written in the Bible and even in this situation I knew that he wouldn’t let me go! I often do things that I feel the Lord putting on my heart to do and I know that if He is calling me to it, no matter the cost, he will be there with me.
The next step of faith and, possibly the most dangerous thing that I am going to do in my life so far, is attend a Discipleship Training School (DTS) with an organization called YWAM (Youth With A Mission). I will be able to know more of God’s heart for the nations and I will be doing an outreach portion in Southeast Asia, where the Gospel isn’t predominantly taught. I know that whatever happens during this call, it will all be for the glory of the Lord and the plans for me are good!
“I grew up around Wilmington, NC, and in just a few weeks will make Vancouver, BC my temporary home as I attend a Discipleship Training School. I have a heart for missions and hospitality and enjoy meeting new people and speaking truth and love into their lives. I pray that I can continue to build relationships with as many cultures as the Lord has called me to, for His Kingdom!”
