FAKE: Alleged Daily Times recent front page picture

Afrobarometer operations Manager Dr. Boniface Dulani has dismissed as fake news, a picture of the Daily Times Newspaper purported to be a recent front page article with a story that reads: “Survey tips MCP to win.”

The picture has been circulating on social media and people posting it on the internet claim that it is the day’s paper.

Speaking with Fake Watch Africa (FWA), Dr. Dulani said Afrobarometer has not released any recent reports in regards to the May 21, 2019 Tripartite Elections.

“The last survey results by Afrobarometer was in 2017 and not this year,” he said.

Times Group Managing Editor, Mr. George Kasakula also called the picture Fake News.

Each Newspaper published by the Daily Times has a date which shows the day of publication, however, one can hardly see the date on the trending picture as it appears blurred.

However, we managed to access the actual May 14, 2017 front page as seen in the picture above.

The FWA team therefore conclude that the picture currently in circulation and it’s nuances, are misleading.
