For those with the right skills and willingness, working in Residence Life is a ticket to both hard work and good perks, as well as fun. When I ran an entire dorm (over 400 students in a party school), I slept 4 hours at a time when I was lucky. At one point I realized I was drinking more than 15 caffeinated beverages (counting the little cups in the cafeteria) and had to wean off — ugly times. But I learned a lot about myself, my failings and my limits. And managed to make education affordable. I am pleased I have led a few other folks behind me into the work, as they loved it and gained, as well. It is NOT for everyone.
