In the example right above this, they failed to show up for work that day and were fired. I think I missed an example in your text. They were not fired for speaking of their intent to stay home but for actually staying home.
This is a tough call. As a person who was employed to run a small business with about 25 employees, I could not give them opportunity for free reign, though we did actually close a few days for big issues. No staff means deadlines are not met, income does not come and payroll may not be able to be met. This is a pretty tough choice all the way around. Having the courage of our convictions means being willing to deal with the fallout.
