Sad I’m Happy

Kedrick Boldin was one of my third grade students (more third grade pix here)

I used to think

when I was a kid

that I was left behind by aliens

as punishment for something I’d done

(if only I could remember!)

and, so,

with restless intensity,

I’d look up at the stars

twinkling over tipped over mountains

and pray they would come back for me,

for I was desolate.

And I still believe all that,

except,

as I grew older,

I learned to be happy when I’m sad

and sad when I’m happy,

so now I’m happy almost all the time.
