Sariwon Korean BBQ
Sariwon is commonly known as the place to get high quality Korean BBQ. Honestly though, the only other place I’ve eaten Korean BBQ is at the Korean Grill House’s in downtown Toronto, so what do I know.
After reading several reviews of the restaurant, one common advice was to make a reservation, but when I called them I was told that a reservation was not required. Lo and behold, when we arrived there were no available tables (surprise, surprise…) After a brief discussion with the hostess explaining our situation we were told that we could stay, but we had a maximum of one hour to eat.
We ordered the beef sirloin and marinated pork.
I cannot contest to the quality of beef because ours ended up extremely burnt. This comes with a long story… basically the waitress started cutting/grilling the sirloin for us. We were a bit confused cause typically at Korean BBQ restaurants you cook it yourself. We asked her several times if we were supposed to cook it, but every time she just came back and continued to cook it without answering our question… Long story short, you’re supposed to cook it yourself and we ended up with burnt sirloin. That was probably our bad, so I won’t take that into account for my review. The pork (which we cooked ourselves) ended up tasting very good.
There were several side dishes (banchan) that came with the meal: kimchi, nuts, jello (I think), noodles, spicy tofu soup, daikon and salad. Truthfully, I only ate the spicy tofu soup which tasted excellent.
Overall, I thought the quality of the food was very good. It was a little bit pricey and the language barrier caused a bit of an issue, so I probably won’t be back. It’s definitely a higher quality Korean BBQ, but like the simple girl I am, I would probably stick with the night owl special at Korean Grill House.
Until Next Time,
