All the love in the air. Am I right?

Written on 8/5/17

Hi there!

This has been an interesting week, and for those who missed it. I had made an article a few days ago that talked about ROLVe’s ability to make money but the assets were stolen from Valve’s Counter Strike: Global Offensive. (You can check that article here) I didn’t think I could caused such a shitstorm about a Roblox game and legal stuff. The main point I wanted to put out to everyone was should this be allowed on Roblox or should it not? I did read and listen to each and every reply, now I did get stuff wrong, which I can admit that I’m not 100% correct. Since the original post, there have been many updates about CB:RO and I was even able to contact the owner of ROLVe, DevRolve, and was able to talk to him about the issues I found with the games. So, let’s get into the updates and corrections.

“ No person is perfect, be the best person you can be and stay true to yourself.”

Let me quickly say: Yes, I get it. I fucked up when I said that “PBB didn’t steal anything from Pokemon.” I knew I fucked up. I’m sorry for that and for everyone who pointed it out on Twitter, you are correct and I was incorrect. But, I do want to say it said that I did say it COULD class as fair use, but I do see where the anger is coming from. And again, I’m sorry for that. Update 8/8/17: Fucking Kotaku wrote a article talking about PBB and it’s legal issues as well, you can check that out here.

Also, the remastered game that the developers have been promoting it on my tweets… Here’s the thing, it still has the same gun sounds, meshes, music and textures from the original and added a map from CS:GO. I’ll go more into details as this article continues. But naturally, I called the Remastered just a another update. It turns out that they are using a very broken framework and they were remaking it to be less broken and more robust than what they have on the main game.

“It’s a common misconception that simply giving credit is enough to avoid copyright infringement but this is not the case.”

While the Pokemon debate was the main anger caused to start the hate on me, I did mess up on some of the things on the article that I will address:

First, the tweets from the ROLVe Twitter account about importing guns, I had made a side by side of a “Former ROLVe gun modeler being told to ‘import guns, it’s way faster’…

The tweets in question

As it turns out, ExecutiveKrab is in fact still part of the ROLVe team with the tweets from the ROLVe account are from mightybaseplate, developer and one half of the PR team running the group’s Twitter, as a joke. But if someone like me looked back at their tweets, it’s hard to say “is it a joke or is this real?” DevRolve knows that the Twitter account may give a bad look to their team is working on fixing it. The next thing I talked about was the skins…

DevRovle does say that skin creators do get a “Selfmade” quality and are might add a way to credit all skin creators in the Remastered version. Which is a great to see them listening to that and give even lower tier skins get it’s credit. He also mentions that they do remove skins for any stole from other users or is a copy of Valve’s and say that one skin has been removed so far. He does also say that most of the money they get is from the case openings alone, however I will not post the figures as it would remove the point to resolve the issue that both DevRovle and I have against.

Some of the things I talked into were not any part towards ROLVe and was actually community stuff, what do I mean by that?

Left: CBCL’s logo | Right: CS:GO’s logo

I showed these two images side by side to show how similar they looked. At that time of writing that part, I had believed that ROLVe had made that, it turns out it created @Proofyy_ for his CB:RO Competitive League (which you can watch here) and he did say there could be a new logo for it soon. He does admit that he was the one that created the logo and ripped off on having the idea for the logo. He also says he hopes that ROLVe can change to make things more original as his team on CBCL continues to run their competitive scene. Update 8/7/17: They did change the logo of CBCL, check it out here:

Now, what about the CLG case you talked about?

DevRolve said that the icon was given to them by a community member but can’t remember the user’s name, but he does say that case can have a different logo on it.

What about the Simple Radar for Dust 2?

DevRolve did as say that it was only to be a placeholder until all the map radars where done. He does say that they are rendered in Blender and would look like this once everything is a good to go.

The big question I had for DevRolve was “If your game did get taken down, do you think it would be fair?” He replied with “Yes, it’s Valve’s choice.” He also does say that Bluay would gladly change the sounds and make new models if Roblox or Valve does take the game down. He also notes that they do take action of any type of skins that steal by removing it and can be no longer opened as I talked about that section back at the “import guns” tweet.

The email that said Roblox is looking into it.

In conclusion, I didn’t want to destroy what ROLVe has created outside of CB:RO but the stealing and making money was the big reason why I had published the article in the first place. It also starts a question if its still bad to steal and profit off of or is it the new normal, but you guys did make your voice loud and clear which is awesome. They do understand what my intent was and they are working on their power to fix it. But its now out of theirs and mines power, as Roblox is currently looking into the matter or if Valve do ask for a takedown. But for now it’s Roblox and Valve’s call to make, and we can only watch.

Special thank you to:

  • DevRolve (the leader for ROLVe) for allowing me to speak on my views
  • PrimeFire94 for letting me be able to contact DevRolve
  • Roblox for emailing about the issue
  • @Proofyy and his team at CBLC (Check out his CB:RO league’s Grandfinal here)
  • People on Twitter who corrected me. (Sorry that I’m an idiot sometimes)
  • Twitter for sharing my message to others ❤
DevRolve: “He’s not our designer. He shouldn’t be in a position to talk about that”
