Day 124 — Noooooooooo! I do NOT want to goooooooooooo!!!!!! OK, I will go. I will work. I will enjoy it. I will help clients. I will be nice. I will continue to do the things that move me forward.
I am. I will. Such powerful words. I am learning about the law of attraction. Like attracts like. By focusing on positive or negative thoughts, a person brings positive or negative experiences into their life. I caught myself explaining how I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror the other day and was so struck by how fat I am. (Cue: sound of screeching tires.)
No dysmorphia. It is stupefyingly, scary true. Made worse when the person tries to make me feel better by responding with a well intentioned, “Oh that is not TRUE! You look great!” While I appreciate the effort, the fact remains, by me making that statement, I’m attracting the wrong result. “I am fat” will keep me fat. Why? Because I will inevitably lose patience with my progress by focusing on the fat and not the progress I’m making. Then self-sabotage and hopelessness invades and prevails.
I’m a big fan of sayings. My office teases me about it. They even made an animated graphic with what they call “Sheilaisims” like:
1. There is good. And then there is good enough. (used for dealing with budgeting issues)
2. No matter how much you polish a turd. It is still a turd. (used when tasked with fixing a new client’s bad website, creative, or strategy)
3. Are we having fun yet? (used for bad situations, crisis mode, and interrupting people working/or not working — same thing)
4. What’s the beef…jerky? (used when fishing for the truth, gossip, or the download on a potentially bad situation)
5. One day turkey. Next day feathers. (used for when the team gets mowed down for sins or failure to perform — real and imagined)
6. That is a “shituation!” or What’s the “shituation?” (use is hopefully obvious and universally applied — liberally)
Some are kinda mean. Some intended as sweet. Some meant to expedite a conversation. Some make no sense to anyone else but me. So no more “noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!” Of course. Unless I mean it. Which in that case, the word “No” will roll, “trippingly on the tongue.” like in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Or like a 2yr. old throwing a holy hell-fire tantrum means it. OBVIOUSLY, without the, kicking, screaming, and negative energy.
Big takeaway today…words matter. I vow to remember and constantly remind myself…until I break the negative program in my subconscious that causes me to focus on feeling that way. It traps me in a negative spiral. I am going to recognize when words or expressions are not productive. I will autocorrect and choose the positive expression of the same thought. “I am fat” will be superseded by “I am looking better” or “I am making progress” or “I am feeling healthier.”
I am going to enjoy my Monday. #Dammit. I think that is already a fail but I’m rollin’ positive with it.
