You’ve got to know where you’re going before you can get there.

Day 185 — Knowing where you’re going solves a whole host of problems. Including getting someplace on time! My husband and I were talking about “things” and “such” this evening when he took me on a walk he didn’t want to take. But it was getting dark and I’d promised I’d get a walk in today. His foot was hurting him and I didn’t notice until we were 15 minutes in. I feel a little bad…but a lot grateful. Kinda like this photo from the lake. I clearly was happier we were there.
When we walk and talk I always learn. His command of the English language is vast. He is intellectually curious and knowledgable about everything. Politics, history, religion, science? He is all in. I genuinely admire his intellect. His capacity for absolute recall of minutia and an endless supply of seemingly arcane and useless facts is unbelievable. Until he whips them out to punctuate a compelling point while engaged in a lively conversation. Oh crap. Mic drop. There he goes again with the knowledge.
So we were walking and talking about the challenges of parenting our teenaged and young adult kids. (Well that was an oxymoron!) However incongruent it sounds, adult or not, they are still our children. I listened to his opinion. Which was more compelling than mine because it was intellectually pure as the driven “f”ing snow. I hate it when he complicates things with the facts. I was pretty excited about an idea to exact retribution by scaring the kids out with frightening costumes. (Trust me. It would’ve been epic! If you ask me.) But alas, the cascade of compelling reasons why we shouldn’t (even if it was evil fun) won.
Then he mentioned the saying, “You’ve got to know where you’re going before you can get there.” Dang.
- It spoke to the heart of my motivation for this weight loss journey.
- It reminded us to encourage our kids to set goals to work toward (and spank them until said goals are achieved).
- The admission I was a tad late this morning to the Grand Opening of my healthcare provider, Elite Health in Pembroke Pines…all because I literally didn’t know where I was going.
Lastly, and not the least of which, this journey, my journey has a destination. I’m almost half way there and can now see it out on the horizon. I know where I’m headed. I am going to be fab.
