I find it really strange how diversity can have such a narrow meaning. Earth is replete with human cultures, languages, and affinity groups. It is truly a testament to our species.

Yet, when we are talking about certain fields, like tech, certain diverse groups — diverse beyond the “normal” group — get relegated to being in that non diverse group, or they have their diversity discredited. People who choose to come here face immense challenges, yet we still recruit enormous numbers of people from Asia to work in tech. It isn’t like they didn’t face challenges or discrimination, either. What they did in response was to prove that they have a place at the table. They didn’t demand, they worked and created situations where respect was the outcome.
