Mental side effects happen with lots of medicine, though.

When we were taking mefloquine in Afghanistan, we had been warned (through sidechannels, of course. DOD said it was just fine to take) about the side effects. The dreams were the easy part, for me. And I didn’t have it as bad as some of my peers.
Of course, seeing another friend who actually got malaria when he had enough of the medication was a very good lesson for all of us. Better to be short term hallucinations than to be stuck with malaria for the rest of our lives.
